PRIME MINISTER RECEIVES SWISS DELEGATION
Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade met on February 23 with visiting delegation of Switzerland led by the country’s Foreign Minister Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey. The Premier said that the Swiss delegation’s visit and talks it had held here would give an impetus to further development of bilateral relations. “In 2005, the trade turnover between our two countries reached $28 million,” he said. The Prime Minster announced that the 2nd sitting of the Azerbaijan-Switzerland intergovernmental economic commission was scheduled for March. He mentioned that Swiss companies are involved in implementation of water supply project in capital Baku. Mr. Rasizade also touched on the economic progress in Azerbaijan, and implementation of global energy projects in the republic. “Azerbaijan is very interested in involvement of Swiss investors in the country’s economy,” he said. He added, however that, the unsettled Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s major problem impeding development in the country.
Mrs. Calmy-Rey, in her turn, said Switzerland is involved in the projects covering a variety of fields in Azerbaijan. However, she described the providing technical and humanitarian assistance to Azeri refugees as priority of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland.
