Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov and Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov of the Republic of Azerbaijan received human rights activists representing structures - members of the Forum of non-governmental organizations at their request, November 6. During the meeting, the latter were informed on the course of investigation into the case instituted in relation to October 15-16 events. It was especially emphasized that following the October 23 meeting with the human rights activists, all detainees but 89 who were proven to be actively involved in the mass disorders, had been released. At the same time, it was pointed out that law enforcement bodies take necessary measures to provide those under arrest with all rights envisaged by procedural criminal law, and that the clamor raised by opposition press for alleged holding unlawful methods of inquiry and tortures are absolutely unfounded, and aimed at misleading of public opinion.
The human rights activists highly appreciated mutual understanding and business relations established with law enforcement bodies, and the actions the latter are taking about discharge of those found not guilty, unambiguously condemned the rough violation of public order and the mass disorders, and requested to consider the issue of discharge of a number of persons who had been taken into custody.
Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov and Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov have stated once again that all the appeals submitted would be thoroughly considered in the framework of the law. At the same time, they expressed confidence that the human rights activists would be unbiased as to evaluation of the events occurred and the relevant measures being taken by the authorities.
