REGIONAL ICT MINISTERS MEET ON SIDELINES OF BAKUTEL-2008 EXHIBITION
Regional ministers of information and communication technologies gathered at the Hyatt Regency-Nakhchivan Hotel in Baku on Tuesday to discuss the “Transnational Eurasia High-Speed Information Highway” project.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 14th International Telecommunication and Information Technologies exhibition and conference BakuTel-2008.
Azeri Minister of Information and Communications Technologies Ali Abbasov, who chaired the event, said high on its agenda were discussions over possibilities of building a high-speed information highway to increase ICT competitiveness of the regional countries.
Other speakers, including Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Information Communication Technologies and Development Sarbuland Khan, executive director of the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications Nuriddin Mukhitdinov stressed the importance of the project.
The participants also discussed a Baku declaration on Transnational Eurasia high-speed information highway.
According to the document, the countries undertook to make every effort to establish an intergovernmental informational highway and work together to solve relevant problems.
The “Transnational Eurasia High-Speed Information Highway” project will cover more than 20 countries of Europe and Asia.
