European Commissioner: Azerbaijan pursuing ambitious plans to boost regional connectivity
Baku, October 2, AZERTAC
An Azerbaijan-EU Clean Energy Business Roundtable was held in Brussels as part of the High-Level Energy Dialogue, co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen.
The meeting focused on business opportunities in renewable energy, including wind power, grid infrastructure, and energy efficiency, as well as practical steps to strengthen European private-sector participation in Azerbaijan’s clean energy sector. It was highlighted that Azerbaijan is working with foreign and private companies to increase the share of wind and solar power to 38.7% by 2030, while new energy connections with the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Türkiye, and Europe offer European companies new opportunities in electricity generation and transmission.
In his remarks, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that green energy corridors could expand the scope of cooperation from Azerbaijan and the Caspian region to Central Asia. He noted that the projects, developed in line with President Ilham Aliyev’s strategic vision, would not only benefit the environment but also contribute to energy security and economic efficiency.
EU Commissioner Dan Jørgensen emphasized that Azerbaijan offers significant opportunities in renewable energy and regional connectivity. He noted that Azerbaijan is pursuing ambitious plans to boost regional connectivity, while European grid technologies, equipment, engineering expertise, and investment could contribute to their implementation.
It was noted that, following the successful completion of the feasibility study for the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Corridor, discussions focused on attracting potential investors and strategic partners for the project’s next stage. European companies were invited to engage in the corridor and other green energy initiatives, including the next phase of renewable energy development from 2028 and energy efficiency projects.
The event brought together representatives of Azerbaijan’s energy institutions, SOCAR Green, the European Commission, WindEurope, Siemens Energy, Vestas, and other stakeholders.
