RF-AZERBAIJAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION MEET IN BAKU
Greeting the guests, First Deputy Premier Abbas Abbasov noted that in the past period the sides have done a certain work for expansion of bilateral trade-economic co-op, solving of the existing problems in this field. In 9 months of current year, volume of goods turnover made up 349,5 million USD, which is by 1,4 times more than the previous year.
Further, Abbas Abbasov said that the basis for mutual supplies are oil products, machine-building and oil-field equipment, pumps, production of chemical industry and agricultural products, while from Russia – oilfield and numerous technological equipment, automobiles, rolled ferrous metals, production of chemical and timber industry, as well as foodstuffs.
To stimulate bilateral ties, as Mr. Abbasov said, it is necessary mutual efforts on optimization of the structures of goods turnover, creation of favorable conditions for transportation of cargo, development of communication, currency-finance promotion to the commerce-economic co-op. He underlined that it was successfully continuing cooperation of the Russian and Azerbaijani companies in development of fuel-energy complex. Through the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline in 2002 has been transported 2,6 million tons of oil, while for January-October 2003 0 2,3 million tons. It is being realized transit via the territory of the Russian federation of natural gas to the Azerbaijan Republic. In 10 months of current year, from the Russian Federation has been imported 1,1 billion kwh power energy. It is ensured a reliable and accident-free work of the energy system of Azerbaijan and Russia in parallel regime.
Undertaken are measures for simplification of the traffic of passenger and freight train between Russia and Azerbaijan. Beginning from the current year, was put into operation high-speed train between Baku and Mahachgala cities.
To satisfy the Baku Metro, the Mitishinsky railway-carriage repair works gave 50 cars. Completed was the construction and commissioned the fiber-optic line of link Russia-Azerbaijan.
The Russian economies are interested in production activity in the Azerbaijan market, first deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan stressed. There have been registered 350 enterprises and organizations with the participation of the Russian capital, of them, 151 are joint ventures, while 83 – with the 100-percent Russian capital, as well as 116 representations and affiliates.
Speaking at the meeting, prime minister of the Russian Federation Victor Christenko noted that successful fulfillment of the earlier reached agreements is an example to the good will of the peoples for mutually beneficial co-op.
A good contract-legal base between the two countries has been set up. In particular, signed were over 100 agreements, of them, over 70 are inter-state and inter-governmental.
In the course of meeting, Mr. Christenko said, we have to analyze the done work, make public the acquired tendency and ascertain further steps, aimed at expansion of mutually beneficial economic and cultural links.
He expressed a hope that the meeting would fruitful and serve further strengthening of mutually beneficial links between Russia and Azerbaijan.

After completion of the meeting, signed were the bilateral documents between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.
The Protocol about opening and use of credits to cover expenses connected with the use of information- analytical center for the period 1997-2001, between the government of Azerbaijan Republic and the Russian Federation was signed by minister of finance of Azerbaijan Avaz Alakbarov and deputy finance minister of Russia Vadim Volkov.
The Memorandum on the intentions to realize cooperation in the field of space activity between the State Committee on special machine building and conversion of Azerbaijan Republic, the National Academy of Sciences and Russian Airspace Agency, was signed by Abbas Abbasov and first deputy general director of Rosaviakosmos Nikolay Mouseeyev.
Protocol of meeting of the chairman of the national parts of the Inter-governmental commission on economic co-op between Azerbaijan Republic and the Russian Federation was signed by First Deputy Premier of Azerbaijan Abbas Abbasov and deputy chairman of the RF Government Victor Christenko.
