Ryukyu Islands in Japan rocked by strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake
Baku, February 17 (AZERTAC). A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake has been reported in the Ryukyu Islands in the nation of Japan. There have yet to be any immediate reports of aftershocks or damage. A tsunami advisory was issued for some parts of Japan.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in Japan in the southwestern Ryukyu Islands, which was followed by a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in the Kuril Islands.
The Ryukyu Islands earthquake was located 70 miles (115 km) east of Ishigaki-Jima and 220 miles (350 km) east of Su-ao, Taiwan. The temblor`s depth was measured at 22.3 miles (35.9 km).
There have been no immediate reports of damages, injuries or deaths.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not yet issued a tsunami alert for the immediate vicinity. However, the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami advisory for the Miyakojima and Yaeyama areas. It is expected that a tsunami of 1.6 feet (0.5 meters) will occur, according to AOL News.
