SECI KEEN IN CO-OP WITH AZERBAIJAN
Presenting the guest to the journalists, head of the press center of the foreign ministry of Azerbaijan Metn Mirza informed that the Republic, conducting active combat against terrorism, illegal drug circulation, man trafficking and organized crime, cooperates with the said Organization since April 2002. Azerbaijan has an observer status in the Organization yet. Expedient measures are undertaken in the Country to become full member of the Organization.
Currently SECI comprises 12 full members, and including Azerbaijan 13 members with observer status, Mr. Yalchin Chakichi said. The Organization closely cooperates with Interpol, Europol, (European Organization of Police), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and US Department of State, International Migration Organization (IMO), Pact of stability on combat against organized crime and other organizations. Of the CIS states, only Azerbaijan and Georgia have observer status in the mentioned Organization.
Goal of the visit to Baku is to hold discussions related to development of cooperation with GUUAM, as well as Azerbaijan, which chairs the Working Group of the said structure on combat against terrorism, familiarization with the work done by experts of the member-states in connection with realization of the projects on creation Inter-state information-analysis system, definition of possible forms of further co-op among the virtual centers of GUUAM.
In the frame of visit, Mr. Yalchin Chakichi held at the President Administration, ministries of internal affairs, foreign affairs, national security, state customs committee, State Frontier Service a number of meetings and focused the mentioned issues.
Azerbaijan is a country where are realized dozen of international economic projects, therefore, it is in the SECI focus. Azerbaijan plays an important role on conducting of a number of operational actions, Mr. Chakichi said.
Azerbaijan will be admitted to the Organization after setting up a due national legislative base, he underlined. SECO renders technical and consultative assistance in realization of the GUUAM projects against terrorism and organized crime.
Mr. Yalchin Chakichi has worked in the police bodies of Turkey over 40 years, and prior to appointment to this post, during 5 years was chief of the Turkish bureau of Interpol.
