South African Republic newspaper writes about Azerbaijan
Baku, November 9 (AZERTAC). South African Republic`s popular English language newspaper “The New Age” has published an article on Azerbaijan.
The article was written by Tom Wheeler, research associate at the South African Institute of International Affairs, co-founder of the NGO “Azerbaijan`s friends in South African Republic” and former ambassador.
The author, who participated in recent Baku International Forum, says the event was attended by laureates of Nobel Prize, well-known public and political figures and experts. The article describes the Forum as important from the viewpoint of discussing key global political, economic and humanitarian problems.
“Baku International Humanitarian Forum is an annual event of famous representatives of political scientific and cultural elite of the world community including famous statesmen, Nobel Prize’s winners in the various fields of science and leaders of influential international organizations whose aim is holding dialogues, discussions and exchange of views on a wide range of global issues in the interest of all humanity.” “The organizers and participants of the Forum are representatives of natural and social sciences, as well as cultural elite of the world who have ambitious task of forming a new humanitarian agenda with the aim of its further consideration on the world scale. Most powerful people of the world are also invited to take part in the Forum. They are acting or former heads of states and founders of multinational corporations. The assembly of the representatives of all fields of human activity leads to the optimal solution of vital problems, which disturb all humanity.”
The author also writes about the visit of Forum attendees to regions of the country. He says the foreign guests had nice impressions of other cities like Nakhchivan.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Wheeler writes: “Azerbaijan continues to be dogged by a conflict with neighbouring Armenia over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh within the national boundaries of Azerbaijan. Armenian forces drove Azerbaijanis out of the enclave and invaded and still occupy a significant portion of western Azeri territory. In spite of repeated attempts by the multinational Minsk Group to negotiate a settlement, there is no lasting progress to show after 25 years.”
The author highlights Azerbaijan`s successful energy policy, saying the country has reached a dynamic economic growth. He praises policy of Azerbaijani leadership to effectively use oil revenues for development of non-oil sectors like information-communication technologies, tourism and agriculture.”
