TURKEY TO SEND MILITARIES TO IRAQ
As stated, at the 6 October session, the government of Turkey adopted an address to the Parliament on sending a detachment of the Turkish Army in staff of the international peacemaking contingent to Iraq. On 7 October, the said address was discussed at the open session of Great national Assembly of Turkey. After discussions, 358 deputies voted for motion of the Government, 183 against, while only 2 - abstained. Thus, the Turkish Parliament adopted the resolution on sending to Iraq contingent of the Armed Forces of Turkey. The Parliament let for stay of the detachment of the Turkish Army in Iraq during a year. The question when the detachment will be sent to Iraq, to what region, and under what circumstances, will be solved by the Government. All these issues will be solved on conclusions of the ongoing negotiations with the United States.
While the Great National Assembly of Turkey is engaged in discussions, members of the trade unions of the country organized a meeting in Ankara. Participants of this meeting whom joined deputies form the People Republic Party, demanded to reject of sending military force to Iraq, and then held a rally in the direction of Parliament building. Before the Parliament, police stopped the rally, as the result of which there occurred a clash between the demonstrators and police. The order was restored.
