TURKISH-AZERBAIJANI MILITARY COOPERATION DISCUSSED
According to the Defense Ministry’s press-service, colonel –general Safar Abiyev warmly greeted the guests, saying: “We have a profound respect to each delegation of the Turkish Armed Forces coming to Azerbaijan ‘cause Turkish state and people are historically native to us. The Turkish Republic was the first to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. According to the Minister, President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev expressed these close relations by saying: “We are one nation, but two states”
After regaining its independence, Azerbaijan Armed Forces established close fraternal relations with the Armed Forces of Turkey. During the active period of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict Turkey was side by side with Azerbaijan. The role of Turkish Armed Forces cannot be overestimated.
Today, the most difficult problem for Azerbaijan is Nagorno-Garabakh conflict. We are concerned that world’s countries do not recognize Armenia as an aggressor. Armenia exploits the problem of genocide as counterpropaganda against Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Having expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, general A. Yalman cited Heydar Aliyev’s expression “We are one nation, but two states”, noting that Turkey’s problems is Azerbaijan’s problems and vice versa. The solution of Nagorno Garabakh problem is Turkey’s problem, too. Turkey has always supported Azerbaijan materially and morally and will do it in the future. Our unity is the unity of our hearts.
General A. Yalman noted that the purpose of our visit lies in the intensive pursue of our work done so far.
Then, the sides expressed views on wide-range issues on Azerbaijan-Turkey cooperation and agreed on rapid implementation of the scheduled work towards bringing Azerbaijan Armed Forces to the NATO standards.
The meeting was attended by military attachй of the Turkish Republic in Azerbaijan, brigadier general Omar Bayragli.
