TURKISH OBSERVERS CONSIDER PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN AS CONSISTENT WITH WESTERN STANDARDS
Opening the press conference, Akkan Suver said:
“I congratulate the elections organizers in Azerbaijan on their successful completion. At the same time, I greet the application of transparent plastic boxes aimed at bringing the election process up to western standards. On the day of elections, we visited 44 polling stations, Absheron districts, Sumgait, while Okan Soysal flew on the helicopter to the platforms “Chirag”, “Istiglal” and “Dada Gorgud” in the Caspian Sea observing the oilmen’s voting through portable boxes. In all these stations, we enquired the observers from political parties about any complaints and violations. We were told that there had been no such actions. Following 19:00 p.m. we evidenced of calculation process taking place in accordance with international standards, calculation of each ballot openly showing each one to observers. Of course, there were rumors, which were not seen by us. But if any, they will not affect the results. Conduction of such successful elections in accordance with western standards in Azerbaijan, which has recently regained its independence, is a large achievement.
Mr. Akkan Suver reminded that he observed election in Germany, Australia, Belarus and Uzbekistan and elections in Azerbaijan does not differ from those in western countries. I must say that we could not use transparent boxes in Turkey yet. I congratulate the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan that I see computerized elections system. Conduction of such democratic elections for 12 years of independence is extremely vital. It makes us proud. You are on the way of democracy, every success to you!.
Then, observers responded the journalists’ questions. Without assessing the “Musavat», party’s actions Akkan Suver stressed the necessity to respect the law.
