UN official congratulates Azerbaijan on successful hosting of WUF13

“In such a complex and challenging world, Azerbaijan is setting an example of putting important issues first: prioritizing green development, promoting sustainable cities and ensuring that we make informed decisions about our own future, as well as that of our children. The World Urban Forum (WUF13) is a truly important initiative and, as I am told, the largest session ever held. I would like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate Azerbaijan on the successful organization of WUF13,” said Dmitry Mariyasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, during the event “Strategic Environmental Assessment as a Tool for Achieving Climate Targets in Urban Planning” held as part of the WUF13.
“The role of Strategic Environmental Assessment in urban planning is particularly relevant and important. This issue is especially important at a time when countries are rapidly urbanizing, developing their economies, managing demographic changes, and at the same time trying to meet their climate commitments by combating the consequences of climate change,” Dmitry Mariyasin added.
