UN SATISFIED WITH AZERBAIJAN ROLE IN COMBAT AGAINST DRUGS AND CRIMINALITY
Warmly welcoming the guest, Chairman of the Parliament stated that after gaining independence, Azerbaijan on the state level seriously combat against drugs, terrorism and international criminality. In connection with these issues, some Conventions were approved by the Parliament.
After the terrorist acts in the US, Azerbaijan joined the anti-terror coalition. Nagorno Garabakh region of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenian Armed Forces turned into uncontrolled zone. Armenian separatists grow up narcotics on these lands, the income of which is used for purchase of weapons and support of terror.
Unfortunately, the Armenians ignore these resolutions. The collaborators of UN organization’s Office on Drugs and Crime and international experts would better hold monitoring on these territories. It may positively influence on urge solution of the conflict and illicit drugs trafficking, the Speaker said.
Having expressed for a warm reception, Mr. Antonio Maria Costa stated that despite a short period of gaining independence, success and advance achieved in Azerbaijan deserve high appraisal. Position of Azerbaijan in combat against narcotics, criminality and terrorism may serve as an example for others.
Azerbaijan joined Conventions for Drugs, and UN worked out new document on combat against corruption, the signing ceremony of which will be held in Mexico, in 10 days.
Mr. Antonio Maria Costa, who invited Chairman of the Parliament Murtuz Alasgarov to this ceremony, touched on Nagorno Garabakh problem. He stated that growing narcotics in the uncontrolled zones – the danger factor and he would aspire to hold monitoring on these territories.
