UNCHR, Chairman of the State Committee on IDPs gave joint press conference
Baku, May 20 (AZERTAC). United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres and Chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov gave joint press conference on Thursday.
Guterres highly praised progress achieved in Azerbaijan to improve living conditions of IDPs since his last visit to the country five years ago. “Azerbaijan government can be proud of the fact that there is no need in any international humanitarian aid in your country” he said.
UNHCR official noted he met with the people driven out of their native land as a result of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan and familiarized himself with their living conditions. “I’m sure the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict will be solved as soon as possible and those people will return back to their home.”
Guterres stressed he discussed how to expand cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Hasanov highlighted the importance of the visit of UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Guterres added reports suggesting the UNHCR has its office in Nagorno-Karabakh are groundless. ######
