UNESCO’S AZERBAIJAN NATIONAL COMMISSION HELD REGULAR SESSION

UNESCO’s Azerbaijan National Commission held its regular session at the foreign ministry of Azerbaijan on 14 January.

Participants discussed the conclusions of the 32nd session of the UNESCO General Assembly and stemming from it the tasks of the Azerbaijan National Commission in 2004, situation connected with Icherisheher and necessary measures connected to Azerbaijan mugham.

Opening the session, chairman of the Azerbaijan National Commission Vilayat Guliyev spoke of the works done in 2003 in the frame of UNESCO-Azerbaijan cooperation, and on collusions of the 32nd session of UNESCO General Assembly.

Then, were speaking members of the National Commission, minister of education Misir Mardanov, minister of culture Polad Bulbuloglu, minister of youth, sports and tourism A. Garayev, minister of ecology and natural resources Huseyn Bagirov, chairman of the Union of Artists Farad. Khalilov, the director of the Azerbaijan State Publishing House - “Azerneshr” - Azer Mustafazade, and rector of the Slavonic University Kamal Abdullazadeh.

Then, Vilayat Guliyev spoke of the Azerbaijani mugham, on the fact that Azerbaijani mugham was announced a masterpiece on the non-material heritage of humanity in Paris in 7 November 2003 and presented the diploma to the minister of culture.

The participants stressed the necessity of protection, development and dissemination of mugham, which is of world importance.

The participants also expressed their concerns connected with the state of Icherisheher.
