U.S. offers condolences, help after Iranian quake

Baku, December 22 (AZERTAC). The United States offered condolences and help on Tuesday to its adversary Iran after an earthquake jolted the southeastern part of the country.

There were no initial reports of casualties from the quake in Kerman province. Iran`s state television put its magnitude at 6.5 on the Richter scale.

"The United States is saddened by the loss of life in Monday`s earthquake in Kerman, Iran," White House National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.

"The people of Kerman have suffered a great deal as a result of this natural disaster. We offer our condolences to the victims and their loved ones and are prepared to offer assistance to those in need during this difficult time," Hammer said.
