US READY TO CONTINUE MILITARY CO-OP WITH AZERBAIJAN
Defense minister of Azerbaijan expressed his pleasure with the visit of the US military delegation, led by Mr. Robin Goodwin, noting that such visits would promote in bringing closer the NATO-US and Azerbaijan military cooperation.
Counter-admiral Robin Goodwin thanked for reception, saying he is for the first time visiting Baku. We are thankful to leadership of Azerbaijan for participation in the programs on combat against terrorism, in particular, in the military operation sin Iraq, he stressed. The US leadership is well aware of these goodwill steps of Azerbaijan. Therefore, I have made my first visit to Azerbaijan in the Caucasus. The goal of the visit is to provide continuation of the America-Azerbaijan and NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation. Then, the sides had a comprehensive exchange of views on prospects of America-Azerbaijan and NATO-Azerbaijan co-op, reaffirmed the necessity of continuing the joint programs on combat against proliferation of mass destruction weapons and narcotics in the South Caucasian region.
We are satisfied with these programs as they conform to the national security platform of Azerbaijan, colonel-general Safar Abiyev underscored. “We are ready to continue our co-op with the US and NATO in this field”, he stressed.
Counter-admiral Robin Goodwin said: “We have certain obligations before your country in combat against international terrorism and adhere development of cooperation to fulfill these obligations”.
Defense minister of Azerbaijan updated the guests on the existent military-political situation in the region, responded to their questions.
Military attachй of the United States to Azerbaijan, colonel-lieutenant Brendan Mac-Loon attended the meeting.
