Vladimir Dorokhin: "Russia will further develop strategic relations with Azerbaijan"
Baku, June 8 (AZERTAC). On June 8 in the press center of "Interfax-Azerbaijan" News Agency the embassy of Russia in Azerbaijan held a press conference devoted to actual problems of cooperation of Russia and Azerbaijan.
The ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin noted that today it is possible to speak about relations of two countries with satisfaction and pride. "Having begun cooperation in uneasy conditions when after collapse of the USSR between Russia and Azerbaijan there was a mutual distrust, misunderstanding, thanks to efforts of great leader Heydar Aliyev and leaders of Russia we could reach today as strategic partnership. Its basis is mutual respect, unconditional recognition of independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of each other", - the Ambassador underlined.
The Ambassador has especially underlined development of humanitarian relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. As Dorokhin stated, the First Russian-Azerbaijan forum last year in Baku concerning humanitarian cooperation has shown the depth of humanitarian relations between the two countries. He said that they are planning to carry out actions in humanitarian area which will enrich spiritual life of the people of two countries.
Speaking about economic relations of two countries, the Ambassador noted that Russia is the major trade and economic partner of Azerbaijan in non-oil sector. “For five months goods turnover between two countries has grown more than for 70 percent. We have bases to count on achievement this year a new absolute record in trade”, the diplomat stressed.
Mr. Dorokhin also noted the role of Russia in settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He told that Russia as one of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs takes active part in settlement of this painful problem for Azerbaijan. Speaking about the current status of negotiating process, V. Dorokhin said that thanks to efforts of the international community “there is a chance to reach serious arrangements”.
Ambassador V. Dorokhin noted that Russia will make henceforth efforts for the further strengthening of partnership with Azerbaijan, being its strategic neighbor. “Russia will further develop strategic relations with Azerbaijan. We are interested in strong, stable and prospering neighbor”, the Ambassador underlined.
