WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION MARKS 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF SMALLPOX ERADICATION

Baku, May 18 (AZERTAC). Today the World Health Organization marks the 30th anniversary of eradication of smallpox. The world`s most feared disease, smallpox, was eradicated by a collaborative global vaccination program led by the World Health Organization in 1979. Smallpox was officially declared eradicated in 1980. On this occasion it is expected to hold inauguration of a statue symbolizing the great achievement in the world`s healthcare.
