Yan Nepomnyashchy becomes winner of Vugar Hashimov Memorial

The 11th Vugar Hashimov Memorial, commemorating the late Azerbaijani grandmaster and European champion Vugar Hashimov, has concluded in the city of Khankendi.
Six chess players competed in rapid and blitz tournaments organized at the Congress Center.
Yan Nepomnyashchy (FIDE), who scored 13 points in total, became the winner of the memorial. Vladimir Fedoseyev (Slovenia) took second place, while Azerbaijan’s Rauf Mammadov ranked third.
Prizes were presented to the winners by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Deputy Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi, Aghdara and Khojaly districts Sabuhi Gahramanov, and President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Mahir Mammadov.
The tournament, organized by the Vugar Hashimov Chess Foundation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, featured Yan Nepomnyashchy (FIDE), Amin Tabatabaei (Iran), Vladimir Fedoseyev (Slovenia), Nodirbek Yakubboyev (Uzbekistan), Rauf Mammadov, and Aydin Suleymanli.
