AGRARIAN SECTOR REFORM ENTERS NEW PHASE

Reform in agrarian sector, one of the main branches of Azerbaijan economy, has entered its second phase. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, during the first phase, 1218 collective enterprises, 170 agricultural production cooperatives, 391 small enterprises and 206 farms.

864 thousand 740 landowners who produce 98% of agricultural products were given physical a natural person status. Within the last five years, the volume of the agricultural products has reached up to 6,3 trillion manats. Potatoes production has exceeded 700 thousand tons.

Production of melons and gourds has increased three times as much. Last year, 116 centner of harvest were taken from each hectare.

The number of neat and small cattle has reached 185,5 thousand and 7 million 93,5 thousand respectively in the Republic.

The tasks of the new phase of the agrarian sector include creation of agro-service enterprises in various regions of the Republic, preprocessors, as well as modernization of old enterprises, attraction investments to purchase agricultural equipment, forming structures uniting landowners, providing them with information services etc.

To this end, the ministry of Agriculture is taking relevant measures in provinces.
