Australia to invest $ 35 billion for development of Internet

Baku, November 26 (AZERTAC). Australian Senate has today adopted a bill on allocating 36 billion Australian dollars (US$35 billion) to create a super fast nationwide Internet backbone, which was earlier proposed by country`s authorities. Note that initially about US$31 billion will be allocated to the development of broadband Internet in the country.

To implement such a large-scale plan, the Australian Government will create a body something like a corporation, in which the Government will own at least 51% of shares.

According to Cybersecurity, the new network, construction of which will take about 8 years, will provide access to the Internet at least 100 times faster than the existing channels.

It is worth noting that last year the Australian Government announced its plans on creating national high-speed internet backbone, however at that time the government was a symbolic participation of the project and investments made up 4.7 billion Australian dollars. At present all the major private players are removed from the program, and the share of government increased almost 10 times.
