AZERBAIJAN ACHIEVED HUGE ECONOMIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2008
Baku, January 8 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan made significant accomplishments in the economic sphere in 2008.
According to the World Bank`s Doing Business 2009 report, Azerbaijan “went further than any other economy and catapulted 64 places in the global rankings to 33, and was announced top global reformer.”
Over the past five years, 750 000 jobs were opened in the country, and this indicator is expected to increase in the coming years. The Gross Domestic Product saw a 2.7-fold rise, while budget expenditures increased ten-fold. During this period, $44 billion were invested in Azerbaijan`s economy.
It was national leader Heydar Aliyev`s dynamic development strategy, which is today being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, that allowed the country to make huge economic progress.
In 2008, the country has also achieved great success in broadening the scope of its economic relations with other countries. A governmental delegation led by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade attended the fifth meeting of Georgia-Azerbaijan intergovernmental economic commission. The second meeting of Latvia-Azerbaijan intergovernmetal commission was held in Riga, while Baku hosted the eight meeting of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan intergovernmetnal commission.
Business forums organized by the country`s Economic Development Ministry were held in Baku, Turkey, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Israel and other countries.
Meanwhile experts forecast that global financial crisis will not have serious impact on Azerbaijan`s economy.
