AZERBAIJAN SENDS NOTE OF PROTEST TO USA
Baku, October 1 (AZERTAC). US Chargé d`Affaires in Baku Adam Sterling has been summoned to Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry to receive a formal protest after “the parliament speaker” of the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic had several meetings with the US Congress` officials in Washington.
According to Elkhan Polukhov, the Foreign Ministry`s spokesman, Sterling was handed over the protest note which voiced Azerbaijan`s “strong indignation and severe condemnation” of the fact Ashot Gulyan, “the parliament speaker” of the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic visited the US Congress.
“Such a move - attempting to arrange a visit of persons from the occupied territories to third countries, particularly the United States, which is a Minsk Group co-chair - has caused Azerbaijan`s strong indignation and severe condemnation,” the protest note said.
“Such visits can cast a shadow on relations between the two countries.”
Meanwhile, the US Department of State told Azerbaijan`s embassy in Washington that Gulyan visited the Congress individually, as a citizen of Armenia, and had no official meetings during his stay in the US capital.
The US Department of State also reiterated the USA`s support of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
