Azerbaijan, US discuss development of energy partnership

Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister, met Thursday with Erik Jacobs, Senior Advisor of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Energy Resources, on the sidelines of the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and the 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting.
During the meeting, the discussions highlighted the contribution of the Azerbaijan-US Energy Partnership to the implementation of energy security projects of regional and international importance, such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and the Southern Gas Corridor. The sides assessed the prospects for the development of this cooperation in the field of energy in terms of modern realities and diversification of Azerbaijan's energy supply with natural gas and renewable energy projects. The parties hailed the significant increase in gas supplies to Europe in recent years, noting however that the demand for additional volumes and sustainable energy security necessitate investments in the natural gas sector, including infrastructure. They stressed the need for new approaches in line with new realities.
The meeting also highlighted the increasing role of electricity and interconnectors, and in this regard, information was provided about Azerbaijan's rich green energy resources, various energy corridor projects initiated and participated by Azerbaijan. The sides talked about the benefits that these corridors will bring to energy security and well-being of countries by providing energy relations between Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Türkiye and Europe.
The sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and bilateral cooperation issues.
