The Second Cultures of the World Festival took place in Hanoi from October 1 to 4, 2026, under the theme “Heritage Convergence – Shaping the Future”.
The festival brought together art troupes and cultural organisations from 50 countries and featured national cuisine, film and traditional costume showcases, as well as international art programs with nearly 220 artists from five continents.
Dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s membership in UNESCO, the four-day festival aimed to promote cultural heritage, mutual understanding and friendship among peoples, while strengthening Hanoi’s role as an international center of culture and cultural diplomacy.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior Vietnamese officials, UNESCO World Heritage Centre Director Lazare Eloundou Assomo and heads of diplomatic missions.
The artistic program featured renowned Vietnamese artists and traditional ensembles, while the international program showcased music, dance and martial arts, with performances by groups from Azerbaijan, China, Indonesia, Israel, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Peru and Ukraine.
Renowned saz player and ashug Ramin Garayev’s performance contributed to promoting Azerbaijan’s rich ashug music heritage to Vietnamese and international audiences and was warmly received by festivalgoers and cultural representatives.
Two Azerbaijan pavilions featured national souvenirs, Vietnamese-language books, historical photographs of Heydar Aliyev’s 1983 visit to Vietnam and Vietnam's President Ho Chi Minh’s 1959 visit to Baku, as well as other promotional materials. Guests were also offered Azerbaijani cuisine.
Following the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra and other officials visited the Azerbaijan pavilion, viewed its cultural exhibits and tasted the renowned Istisu mineral water from Kalbajar.
The presentation of Istisu highlighted Azerbaijan’s natural resources and Kalbajar’s unique heritage, with plans for its official import and sale in Vietnam following completion of registration procedures.
The Azerbaijan pavilion was among the festival’s most visited, with the Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism and local culinary businesses partnering with the Embassy.
