People's Writer Ilyas Afandiyev's 30th death anniversary commemorated

On October 3, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, family members, and prominent figures from literature and the arts visited the Alley of Honor to commemorate People’s Writer, prose writer, playwright, Honored Art Worker, State Prize laureate, and "Shohrat" Order recipient Ilyas Afandiyev at his grave on the 30th anniversary of his passing.
Speakers emphasized that Ilyas Afandiyev holds a distinctive and important place in Azerbaijani literature, and that his work played a significant role in expressing national and spiritual values, the fate of the people, the Azerbaijani language, and national identity.
It was noted that Ilyas Afandiyev's works broadly reflect thoughts on the fate of Azerbaijan, the national and spiritual world of the people, the Garabagh theme, and the fate of the Turkic world and the Azerbaijani language. His engagement with national issues under complex social and political conditions was described as one of the most important features of his work.
It was said that Ilyas Afandiyev is a writer for all times. His works will be born anew with each new generation. As time passes, readers and audiences come to know his work more closely and rediscover his writings. His works have been translated into various languages and staged in prestigious European theaters.
Speakers stressed that although Ilyas Afandiyev is no longer physically in this world, he lives on in the memory of our people through his works, his staged plays, the characters he created, and his contribution to Azerbaijani literature.
It was noted that Ilyas Afandiyev's dramaturgy has had special significance for the development of Azerbaijani theater, and that productions based on his works are still staged today. Speakers pointed out that, thanks to the depth of artistic and philosophical thought in his works and his heroes of high spiritual and moral values, Ilyas Afandiyev will remain forever in Azerbaijan's literary and cultural landscape.
His work had a great influence on the formation of a generation of artists. According to the speakers, the fact that his works continue to be staged in theaters after so many years shows that his literary legacy has retained its relevance and artistic power.
Speaking on behalf of the People's Writer's family, Gunay Afandiyeva, Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Committee on Culture and granddaughter of Ilyas Afandiyev, thanked those who attended the ceremony. She said that the respect shown to Ilyas Afandiyev's memory is of great importance to his family.
