AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS WITH DELEGATION OF US NATIONAL WAR COLLEGE
The delegation comprised of top-ranking military officers and civil employees was headed by ambassador Michael Lemmon. The major aim of the visit was to become familiar with the military and political aspects of the bilateral relations
Minister updated the delegation on today’s interstate relationship, socio-political, economic situation in the country and the region.
Elmar Mammadyarov stressed President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the USA has become a milestone in the bilateral relations and expressed hope that these ties will be developed from now on. Noting our countries closely cooperate to fight international terrorism he said Azerbaijani peacekeepers serve alongside American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Minister said trade turnover between the countries is below the potential, adding section 907 of the Freedom Support Act hampers the progress of the relationship.
Asked by the delegation members, Minister told of the economic achievements in Azerbaijan as well as Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, OSCE Mink Group activity and called for its resolution based on international law and territorial integrity.
E. Mammadyarov also answered the visitors’ questions concerning such major projects as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline and Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway and touched upon the issues brought up at the Economic Cooperation Organization summit and relationships with the nations of the region.
The sides also shared their views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
