Azerbaijani MPs meet Spanish counterparts
Baku, July 26 (AZERTAC). Members of the Azerbaijani Parliament`s Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties have met today a delegation of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.
Speaking at the meeting, member of the Committee Asim Mollazade briefed the Spanish delegation on the statehood history of Azerbaijan. He said the first parliament in the East was established in Azerbaijan, and women were granted the right to vote in the country ahead of several European countries.
Mollazade also noted integration into Euro-Atlantic structures was one of the priorities of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy.
The Spanish parliamentarians were also informed of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
The Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva expressed her inconvenience over the fact that this year Armenian snipers killed two Azerbaijani children.
During the meeting, the Spanish delegation was also briefed on the activity of the Azerbaijani parliament, democratic institutions and the role of women in society.
Head of the Spanish delegation, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida noted his country is interested in development of relations with Azerbaijan. “Parliaments play an important role in this issue”, he added.
Lleida also pointed out Azerbaijan plays a significant role in the European energy security, and “Spain is interested in cooperation with this country”.
