Azerbaijani mugham and Chinese music performed in Beijing

A concert program entitled “Silk Road in Moonlight: Azerbaijan and China in Musical Harmony” has been held in Beijing, the capital of China.
The concert was organized by the Khan Shushinski Foundation with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in China. Azerbaijani and Chinese musicians performed at the event.
The event brought together representatives of Chinese society and diplomats.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to China Bunyad Huseynov underlined that historically, the Silk Road was not only a trade route connecting East and West, but also served as a bridge between civilizations. He said that although Azerbaijan and China are geographically far apart, cultural exchanges between the two peoples developed precisely through the Silk Road.
Highlighting that both Azerbaijan and China have exceptionally rich musical traditions shaped by centuries of history and cultural experience, the diplomat emphasized that Azerbaijani mugham, traditional musical instruments, and the country’s classical musical heritage embody a profound and distinctive cultural identity, while China’s remarkable musical heritage, rich in traditional instruments and diverse melodies, preserves the memory and artistic philosophy of one of the world’s oldest civilizations.
