AZERBAIJANI PEOPLE RESOLUTE TO FREE OCCUPIED LANDS
Expressing his gratitude for the reception, ambassador Schteinar Gil informed that he came to present the new military attachй.
The military attachй, colonel Olaff Nordbenn noted that he would take active part in establishment of the Norwegian-Azerbaijani military cooperation.
Informing the guest of the history of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, colonel-general Safar Abiyev said: “Armenia, under its patronages dragged Azerbaijan to the war, occupied its lands, as a result of which over one million of its population became refugees and internally displaced persons. At the territory, named today as the Republic of Armenia, historically was located the Iravan Khanate of Azerbaijan. There was no Armenian in the Nagorny Karabakh, as well. In 1828, the Tsarist Russia settled the Armenians in these territories from Iran, Turkey and other countries, now and then implemented forcible deportation of Azerbaijanis from their homelands. In 1978, the Armenians, marking in Nagorny Karabakh 150th anniversary of their resettlement in these lands, erected here a monument on this historical event. Today, they impudently state that these lands historically belonged to the Armenians. Along the centuries, they falsified our history, appropriated our culture and art. Even today in the Nagorny Karabakh they listen the Azerbaijani music”.
Speaking of the Armed Forces of the Republic, the minister of defense said: “ Azerbaijani people defending its lands, created its army. This is very difficult, but we provide our Armed Forces with personnel, military technique, and accommodation without any interference from abroad. I would like to state that if the military operations in the Armenian-Azerbaijani front will reassume, then, it, of course, rest on the world community and those who support the Armenian aggressors, so that several states and politicians regard this issue from the position of double standard, do not call Armenia aggressor state, while its is clearly a true aggressor, abuses the rights of over one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs”.
Noting that the Azerbaijani people is resolute to liberate the occupied lands, return the refugees and IDPs to their homes, Mr. Safar Abiyev emphasized: “In 13 years after regaining independence our Republic has established bilateral relations with many states, including Norway. We are pleased that your state through the military attachй will represent its Armed Forces in Azerbaijan. I wish that the new attachй studied well the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and took direct part in the establishment of the Azerbaijani-Norwegian military cooperation”.
