BAKU HOSTS 8TH SESSION OF CHIEFS OF CIS MIGRATION SERVICES
Baku, September 30 (AZERTAC). The 8th session of the CIS Council of Heads of Migration Services was held in Baku.
The event drew representatives from seven countries and various international organizations. The session dealt with various issues, including situation in the field of migration in the CIS countries, results of implementation of programs to combat illegal migration for 2009-2011, as well as proposals to develop a program on combating illegal migration for 2012-2014.
Addressing the event, head of Department on work with law-enforcement bodies of Administration of Azerbaijan`s President Fuad Alasgarov raised participants` awareness about the migration policy of his country. He said Azerbaijan adopted a state program on migration in 2006, adding the country established the State Migration Service in 2007.
The Presidential Administration`s official said that Azerbaijan was one of the first CIS countries to face problems of refugees and IDPs. He said as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and aggression and ethnic cleansing policy by Armenia, one million people have been expelled from their native lands.
Aleskerov also told about labor migrants in Azerbaijan.
“The number of migrants coming to the country has increased due to Azerbaijan`s rapid economic and social development, social-political stability, as well as tolerance of the people,” he said.
