BAKU INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IS OVER
On final day of the event, the conference held a plenary session. After the UN’s resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Marco Borsotti presided at the session delivered the report “Future Directions”, Chairman of the National Forum of Non-Governmental organizations Azay Guliyev and others shared their opinions on the on the matter, answered the questions arose, and debated over the Azerbaijan’s government position and private sector, as well as discussed the results of the work done.
Afterwards, the conference participants heard the reports by working groups on “Future Priorities, Strategies and forms of Cooperation”.
Representative of the American Humanitarian organization “Mercy Corps” and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, the UN’s resident coordinator in Azerbaijan and representatives of other international organizations expressed the position of their structures in relation to further activity in Azerbaijan, commented on the important work carried out for deepening links between the international humanitarian organizations and local government.
They also expressed their gratitude for conditions created for organization and conducting the conference on a high level, and particularly emphasized the great importance of conducting such events.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee on refugees and IDPs and the Republican Commission for International Humanitarian Aid Ali Hasanov gave a high assessment to activity of the international humanitarian organizations in Azerbaijan, and wished them be more active while dealing with cooperation, partnership and coordination.
Ali Hasanov noted the international humanitarian organizations should not leave Azerbaijan until Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict is not fairly solved. “The experience gained from the cooperation will also be used after our refugees and IDPs return to the native lands,” he said.
On behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov expressed gratitude to the donor countries, foreign oil companies rendering humanitarian assistance to our country, the local companies, which had taken the role of donors, as well as to the conference organizers and sponsors – UN High Commissioner for Refugees, American organizations “Save the Children” and “Mercy Corps”, Norwegian Refugee Council and other international humanitarian organizations, companies BP, Satoil and Exxon Mobile - for assistance rendered to the refugees and IDPs, and for efforts in the sphere of sustainable development.
