Book about great Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev unveiled at National Library
Baku, February 4 (AZERTAC). A Presentation of the book titled “Gara Garayev. Life and creative activity in the materials of the Azerbaijan State Museum of Musical Culture” took place at the Akhundzadeh Azerbaijan National Library.
The book revealing almost 700 documents in chronological order, traces the legendary development of the great Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev, whose life was a whirlwind of achievement, and the musician, who pushed national music into new realms. In the foreword to the book, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, ISESCO and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva writes about Gara Garayev as an outstanding personality who has made great contribution to the cultural heritage of the mankind.
Addressing the event, Deputy minister of culture and tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva emphasized that the 90th birthday of Gara Garayev was widely marked in 2008 in Azerbaijan and abroad following the decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Azeri minister of culture and tourism Abulfaz Garayev, People`s writer of Azerbaijan Anar, Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjevi Rafael Huseynov, Executive Director of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov, outstanding culture and art industry workers were among the attendees.
Gara Garayev (also spelled as Qara Qarayev and Kara Karayev) was a prominent Azerbaijani composer of the Soviet period. Garayev wrote nearly 110 musical pieces, including ballets, operas, symphonic and chamber pieces, solos for piano, cantatas, songs and marches, and rose to prominence not only in Azerbaijan, but also worldwide.
