Chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee on Refugees and IDPs meets EPP members
Baku, July 21 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani deputy Prime Minister, chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met with members of the European People`s Party`s group (EPP) at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Hasanov updated the delegation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and provided information on the work done by the Azerbaijani government to improve social welfare of refugees and IDPs. He noted that Armenian aggression resulted in occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan`s territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts and displacement of over one million Azerbaijanis. Hasanov also stressed that Armenia disregards four resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
Azerbaijani deputy Prime Minister noted Azerbaijani government allocated 4.5 billion dollars to solve problems of refugees in the last 20 years. He said 67 new settlements had been built for refugees to date.
For his part, EPP Chairman Luca Volonte noted they familiarized themselves with the living conditions of refugees and IDPs. “Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be settled peacefully, refugees and IDPs must return to their home,” he added.
The delegation was presented with CDs featuring Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
