COMBAT AGAINST DRUG ADDICTION AND ILLICIT DRUG TURNOVER CONTINUES

Statement by the State Commission for Combat Against Drug Addiction and Illicit Drug Turnover says 1374 facts of crimes caused by narcotism have been registered in the territory of Azerbaijan for seven month of 2003; 397 of them are connected with drug sale.

Confiscated from separate persons were 114, 874 kg narcotics, psychotropic, including 1,296 kg of heroine, 67,643 kg of opium, 811,5 kg of hashish, 45,124kg of marihuana, 204004 pills, 2959 ampoules with strong medicines. 111 tons 765 kg of illegally cultivated and wild narcotic plants have been destroyed.

Law enforcement bodies have again paid special attention to the illicit drug turnover revealing their sources. As a result, 29 foreigners - 17 citizens of Iran, 9- Russia, the rest - citizens of Georgia, Turkey and Afghanistan were instituted criminal proceedings in March 2003 with confiscation of 34,216 kg different narcotics.
