EPP delegation meets deputy chairman and executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party
Baku, July 19 (AZERTAC). A delegation of the European People`s Party (EPP) group at the PACE has met with MP, deputy chairman and executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov.
Ahmadov briefed the delegation on economic, political, cultural achievements Azerbaijan has gained after restoring its independence. He noted the Azerbaijani economy grew almost three times over the last seven-eight years.
“Azerbaijan integrates into Europe and plays important role in European energy security”, Ahmadov said. He added that problems Azerbaijan faced as a result of occupation of its territories by Armenians remain a serious threat not only for the region, but also for Europe.
Ahmadov noted that Armenians killed two minors in 2011 alone. One of them is 9-year-old Azerbaijani child who was murdered by Armenian sniper in March, and another is the 13-year-old girl who died while playing with a toy dog with explosive device installed inside.
The Azerbaijani MP also spoke of Party`s international relations, and noted that the Party appealed to the EPP to become a member.
Speaking in the meeting, member of EPP delegation, PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur for Azerbaijan Pedro Agramunt said “progress achieved in your country is praiseworthy”. He noted that the main aim of the visit is to attend the interreligious dialogue conference in Baku. “Baku`s hosting such event must be praised as a sample of dynamic development, freedom of thought, word and faith”, Agramunt added.
