EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE VISITED TOMB OF HEYDAR ALIYEV AND ALLEY OF SHEHIDS

As was informed, visiting Azerbaijan, the special representative of the European Union for the Southern Caucasus Heiki Talvitie on March 22, together with the special envoy of this international structure in Azerbaijan Antonius de Veres and the ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany in our country Klaus Grevlich have visited the Alley of Honors where have visited the tomb of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and laid flowers on his tomb. Then, they have visited the Alley of Shehids, have assigned flowers to tombs of the brave fighters who fell for independence and territorial integrity of Motherland, and the memorial complex “Eternal Fire ”. Memory of the shehids was revered with a moment of silence.

EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE VISITED SHEKI PROVINCE

Paying an official visit to Azerbaijan, the special representative of the European Union for the Southern Caucasus Heiki Talvitie on March 20 has visited Sheki province of the Republic.

As was informed, the meeting with the visitor and persons accompanied him has taken place at the executive power of the city of Sheki. Warmly having welcomed Heikki Talvitie, the chief executive of the city of Ashraf Maamadov expressed satisfaction to this visit saying that it coincided with the national holiday of Azerbaijan, Novruz Bayram. He has in detail told about Sheki, has noted achieved in the last years in social and economic sphere successes. Informing visitors about the measures stipulated in connection with execution of the "State program of social and economic development of regions of the Azerbaijan Republic”, the chief executive has noted that the nearest years in Sheki would be opened 7 thousand new workplaces, the system of water supply and the water drain be reconstructed, activity of the enterprises of light industry be restored, the cannery and a factory on processing sugar beet are constructed. He has especially emphasized, that as a result of the Armenian -Azerbaijani, Nagorny-Karabakh conflict in Sheki are placed more than 15 thousand refugees and IDPs. They wait for much from the international structures, including from the European Union, in the peace settlement of the conflict.

Having thanked for warm reception, Heiki Talvitie told that for the first time is in Sheki and has fallen in love with this city, informed, that the purpose of his visit consists in acquaintance with projects carried out in the regions, finding-out of what help is necessary in of realization of these projects. He expressed confidence that in Sheki, the powerful infrastructure for development of tourism will be created.

Celebratory gifts have been presented to visitors.

Then, they have familiarized with sights of Sheki, have taken part in the big celebratory arrangement organized on the occasion of Novruz Bayram.

EU PAYS SPECIAL ATTENTION TO DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONS WITH AZERBAIJAN

On March 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev the delegation headed by the special representative of the European Union for the Southern Caucasus Heiki Talvitie.

As was informed from the press center of the ministry, Vilayat Guliyev, warmly welcomed the visitors, emphasized that development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union represents special value for the Country.

Having noted that Azerbaijan is most economically advanced country on Southern Caucasus, the Minister has emphasized necessity of the further expansion of cooperation between our country and EU.

Then, Vilayat Guliyev informed visitors on prospects of connections of Azerbaijan with the neighboring states, including with Georgia, and the economic projects which are carried out within the framework of regional cooperation, the work spent in the field of settlement of the Armenian -Azerbaijani, Nagorny Karabakh conflict, activity of the OSCE Minsk Group in this direction.

The special representative of the European Union for the Southern Caucasus Heiki Talvitie has emphasized that the structure represented by him attaches huge significance to the further development of cooperation with Azerbaijan and supports more intensive continuation of the connections representing mutual interest.

Having touched the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorny Karabakh conflict, Mr. Heiki Talvitie has noted necessity of continuation of bilateral negotiations and has expressed hope that as a result of joint efforts of the international community, the conflict would shortly find the fair peace settlement.

Then, the parties had exchange of views on a number of issues representing mutual interest.
