Mingachevir Regatta 2026: Azerbaijan claim four medals on Day 1

Azerbaijan claimed four medals on the opening day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026, with rowers competing at the Kondalanchay reservoir in Fuzuli.
The opening day of the tournament, co-organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, featured 200-meter kayak and canoe sprint events.
Alimurad Hajizade led the way for Azerbaijan by securing gold in the men's K1 (2008–2009) category, just ahead of compatriot Nuran Rahimli, who took silver for Azerbaijan. In the C1 discipline, Huseyn Samadli added a bronze medal in the same age class, while junior rower Elmir Taghiyev sealed bronze in the K1 (2010–2011) event to round off a strong opening showing.
The international regatta brings together over 100 young rowers from 12 countries, including Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

The Mingachevir Regatta 2026 international tournament kicked off today at the Kondalanchay reservoir in Fuzuli.
The opening day of the tournament, co-organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, features 200-meter kayak and canoe sprint events.
The tournament will move to the "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir on September 30 and October 1 for competitions across all rowing disciplines and distances.
