“Fresno Bee” newspaper posts response letter of Azerbaijani Consul General
Washington, December 31, AZERTAC.
The Californian newspaper “Fresno Bee” has issued a response letter of Azerbaijani Consul General Nasimi Aghayev. The letter is published in response to the previous article on the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
The letter says that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is an illegal regime created as a result of unlawful military occupation and ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijan’s lands by Armenia.
“The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is not recognized by the U.S. government or any other national government in the world. From 1991 to ’94, Armenia’s armed forces occupied one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s territory and forcibly expelled more than 800,000 Azerbaijani civilians from their homes and land. For comparative purposes, this occupied territory is almost equal to the entire area of the Fresno County. The U.N. Security Council harshly condemned this medieval-style land-grab and demanded immediate withdrawal of Armenian forces from occupied regions of Azerbaijan.”
The Consul General said peace can only be achieved once Armenia withdraws its troops from Azerbaijan’s territory, ends the illegal occupation, and the expelled population of these lands are allowed to return to their homes and attempt to rebuild their lives.
