GREAT BRITAIN WILL DETERMINE DIRECTIONS OF MILITARY CO-OP WITH AZERBAIJAN
Greeting the guest, the Minister said that Great Britain is one of the first states that supported Azerbaijan in offshore energy exploration and development, defense ministry press service reported. As successful results of this cooperation, in the beginning of the coming year, Azerbaijani oil will be transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline to Europe.
Noting that military-political situation in the South Caucasus is tense, colonel-general Safar Abiyev said that the occupant Armenia pursues policy of aggression, and does not refrain its territorial claims, added: “Armenia ignored four Resolutions of the United Nations and Statement by UN Security Council. International community is not interested in settlement of the question. We are convinced that Great Britain will openly confirm that Armenia is an occupant state and demand from it to free Azerbaijani lands. Dissolution of this conflict is a great threat to development of the energy resources of Azerbaijan and its transportation to Europe. Delay of settlement of the conflict gives reason to restore the military operations between Armenia and Azerbaijan”.
Expressing gratitude for reception, Ambassador L. Bristow said he was pleased with his appointment as an ambassador to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is beautiful and splendid country. He said: “Delay of solution of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict, impedes development in all fields in the country. My country, as the UN permanent member, supports the four Resolutions of the United Nations on unconditional liberation of the Azerbaijani lands. The state of Great Britain always tries to bring to the notice of the world community the plight of over one million citizens of Azerbaijan who became refugees and IDPs and assisted them many times”.
Then, the sides focused the issue of military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Great Britain.
Ambassador L. Bristow noted that English courses have been arranged at the defense ministry of Azerbaijan. Currently, discussions on Understanding Memorandum are underway. The Memo will be completed shortly and presented to the defense ministry of Azerbaijan. We shall determine priorities of the military cooperation.
Colonel-general S. Abiyev said that Azerbaijan closely cooperates with NATO in the frame of PfP Program. Currently, we are working on the Individual Activity Plan of Partnership with NATO. This plan will shortly finalized and our cooperation will go ahead.
Then, the parties had exchange of views on numerous directions of co-op between Azerbaijan and Great Britain.
