International caricature contest wraps up in Baku

Baku, August 22 (AZERTAC). An International Caricature Contest called “Molla Nasraddin-Azerbaijan” has ended here.

The contest organized by the Azerbaijan Artists` Union and Caricaturist Artists Union was held with support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Customs Committee and the Federation of Cartoonists Organizations (FECO).

According to chairman of Azerbaijan Caricaturist Artists Union Bayram Hajizade, the 4th International contest held under the motto “No to Narcotics!” was dedicated to the 105th anniversary of “Molla Nasraddin” satirical magazine.

The contest featured 670 caricatures of 307 painters from 63 countries.

Italian Gatto won a gold medal, while Ukrainian Kazanevski and Spain Valiakhmetov have shared the second and third places respectively.

Azerbaijani Hasanli, Israeli Erenburg and Russian Ashmarin have been honored with special awards of the contest.

Winners, popular caricaturists from various countries, heads of international caricature organizations are invited to the presentation ceremony and exhibition to be held in October in Baku.

President of FECO Peter Nieuwendijk will attend the event to be organized for the first time in Azerbaijan.
