INT’L CONFERENCE OF OMBUDSMEN WRAPS UP IN BAKU

IV Baku International Conference of ombudsmen held on the initiative of the Azerbaijan Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova wrapped up. The action has been devoted to the theme “Condition and prospects of development of cooperation with a view of perfection of protection of human rights”. Action was organized within the limits of the Year of Russia in Azerbaijan on the principle of mutual cooperation between two countries.

Elmira Suleymanova delivered a lecture on the topic “Legal education as one of the basic directions of the activity of ombudsman”. She informed on the radical reforms carried out in the country in the field of the rights and freedom of the person. The commissioner on human rights of the Council of Europe of T. Hammerberg has emphasized importance of rendering from the state bodies of the help to institute of ombudsman, being not a judicial mechanism in the field of realization of human rights.

At conference, speaking was the first deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan Republic Abbas Abbasov, the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Vladimir Lukin, chairperson of standing commission of the Milli Majlis on human rights Rabiyyet Aslanova, the resident-coordinator of the United Nations in Azerbaijan Марко Borsotti.

Participants of conference at separate sittings have carried out exchange of experience and opinions.

Ombudsman pf more than 20 subjects of the Russian Federation, deputies of Milli Majlis, representatives of the state structures and NGOs have taken part at conference.
