Kalbajar- Emerald Crown of Azerbaijan

Kalbajar-the invaluable ancestral heritage of Azerbaijan! The land of ancient monuments, thick forests, yellow daffodils and fragrant violets!
Kalbajar has been proudly labelled the Emerald Crown of Azerbaijan for more than 30 thousand years.
The sacred water of Istisu, a famous hot mineral spring located in the district, is a symphony to ears.
“The one who hasn’t ever been to the Tartar River, could only be fascinated by the beauty of Switzerland. Indeed, no one can deny the fact: Kalbajar is a true flourishing heaven on Earth!”, a renowned German geologist, Father of Caucasian geology Otto Wilhelm Hermann von Abich said as he described Kalbajar.
Kalbajar is a real treasury of natural resources. The district is enriched with a number of valuable minerals, including gemstones, various minerals of industrial significance, sand, gravel mixture, munz-metal (commonly known as “Yellow Metal” which includes such valuable elements as zinc, iron and copper).
Kalbajar can also boast about its unique flora and fauna, as a host of rare trees, animals and birds inscribed in the Red Book have chosen the district as their dwelling place.
However, there have also been tragic pages in the history of Kalbajar.
On 2 April, 1993, Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar district was occupied by the Armenian armed forces, as Armenian invaders killed and tortured dozens of peaceful Azerbaijani residents. Thus, the district has experienced nearly a 30-year period of looting, vandalism and desecration.
It was on November 25, 2020 when Kalbajar has finally been reunited with its real owners, as Azerbaijani nation cheered the news conveyed by the Azerbaijani President, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev: “Kalbajar district has been liberated from occupation today. I heartily congratulate all the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion. Dear people of Kalbajar, I congratulate you! Your native district has been liberated from occupation!”
