A regular joint sitting of the Milli Majlis Standing Commissions on Human Rights, Culture, Legal Policy and State Building, Science and Education has focused again on the draft law “On Public Tele- and Radio Broadcasting.” Chair of the standing Commission on Human Rights Siruz Tabrizli pointed out that despite the Law had been passed in the third reading, President Ilham Aliyev put a veto on the document as it did not sufficiently reflect some democratic values. “The amendments put forward by the president are fully in line with opinions of the CE experts,” the Mr. Tabrizli said.

The head of the working group Rizvan Jabiyev reported then, that all the amendments and supplements being studied, they were divided into three parts, and some articles were removed from the project. According to Mr. Jabiyev, the working group has carried out serious work at prevention of interference in the public television, dissemination of official news on the public television, confirmation of Broadcasting Council Chairman’s appointment, etc.

During the debate, the deputies considered the fact of putting veto on the document by President Ilham Aliyev as the Head of State’s adherence to the democratic principles.

Finally, the sitting participants decided to submit the project for discussion at the Milli Majlis.
