“However, I have to note with great regret that the still unsolved Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict causes serious problems,” the Chairman said. According to him, Armenia is not interested in peaceful resolution of the conflict following under its commitments to the Council of Europe. “The UN Security Council, Council of Europe and other international structures confirmed the fact of occupation of Azerbaijan territories by Armenia. During the recent OSCE PA meeting, rapporteur Goran Lennmarker officially declared this fact. This means the OSCE PA also intends to put the issue to discussion,” added Mr. Alasgarov.
The Milli Majlis Chairman briefly told of the history of the conflict.
Mr. Terry Davis thanked the MM Chairman for giving the time on this sorrowful day of 12th anniversary of the Khojali tragedy, and noted the information he had obtained during the visit would help him to write a comprehensive report. He also promised to do his best for the report to be fair and objective.
In conclusion, Chairman Murtuz Alasgarov showed Mr. Terry Davis the documents demonstrating perpetration of terrorist acts by Armenians against Azerbaijan, as well as how they erected in 1978 the monument dedicated to the 150th anniversary of their immigration to Azerbaijan, and destroyed it 10 years later.
