PRINCE MICHAEL OF KENT VISITS SANGACHAL TERMINAL
Director of Sangachal Expansion Project Jacobus Nieuwenhuijze let the delegation know that the first oil from the contract area “Chirag” was produces in November 1997, and that to this end, the first platform was constructed 140 kilometers away from the shore in the Caspian Sea, and linked to the Sangachal terminal by a pipeline. According to him, oil produced by the Azerbaijan International Operating Company is delivered to the world market through the two pipelines: Baku-Supsa and Baku-Novorossiysk.
Mr. Nieuwenhuijze added that development of the “Azeri” field the first oil from which is expected by early 2005, is now also in progress.
Speaking of the terminal expansion, the project’s Director pointed out that after being completed, the object now employing over 2500 people, would become the world’s largest one of this kind with a capability to store some 1 million barrels of oil. According to him, BP is the main operator of energy projects being implemented in Azerbaijan.
Afterwards, the guests viewed the terminal’s area.
At the training-processing hall, the Prince of Kent carried out virtual drilling of a well on an offshore platform. He told journalists he was glad of active involvement of British companies in the energy projects in Azerbaijan.
The guests were accompanied by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the UK Rafael Ibrahimov.
