Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
The Council meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (CIS PA) was held in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation with Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova in attendance.
Speaking at the meeting, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared her views on the topics under discussion.
Addressing the third item on the Council's agenda, she noted that one of the core directions of the Assembly's activity is conducting monitoring missions for elections and referendums held within CIS member states. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis pointed out that elections are among the most crucial events in the life of any country, shaping its future development. In any election, an objective observation mission plays a vital role in assessing the level of transparency and democracy. Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that the participation of the Assembly's observation missions in elections held across our countries is not merely a monitoring process, but also a reflection of solidarity and mutual support.
She also shared her insights regarding the findings of the Interparliamentary Assembly's international observers who monitored the snap elections to the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was noted that members of the Milli Majlis actively participated in both observation missions.
Sahiba Gafarova noted with satisfaction that Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov served as the coordinator of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly's observer group during the monitoring of the referendum held in brotherly Kazakhstan.
The meeting concluded with discussions on a number of organizational and agenda items, followed by the adoption of corresponding resolutions.
