“SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF CASPIAN LITTORAL COMMUNITIES” PROJECT PRESENTED
The project’s small grants program will be carried out in four Caspian countries – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan within 2004-2006s.
The ceremony was opened by Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan Antonius de Vries.
In his speech, project manager David Burton noted that project consists of two parts – rendering of the technical and financial assistance. Main aim of the project is reduction and prevention of misallocation of the Caspian region. According to Mr. Burton, one of the characteristic problems of the Caspian region is poaching, that population is obliged to engage in that to maintain the family. Opening of the new working places will render essential support to the population of these zones, reduce illegal fishing, as well as oppressive influence in the Caspian. Total amount of the project is € 2.5 mln.
According to Azerbaijan representative in the regional ecological center Matlab Hasanov, the first credit will make up € 100 thousand. Representatives of small business, NGOs, municipalities, different public groups may apply for the grants.
The project is implemented by the International Mining Corporation /IMC/ of Great Britain.
