TERRY DAVID MEETS WITH LEADERS OF POLITICAL PARTIES
Welcoming the guest on behalf of “Yeni Azerbaijan” party, Siyavush Novruzov expressed belief that the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly would give, at last, fair and objective appraisal to this issue. “Leaders of political parties hope that while writing the report you will consider the international legal norms, the UN Security Council’s four resolutions, the related documents adopted by the Council of Europe etc.,” he said.
Speaking at the meeting were Chairman of the “Yurddash” party Mais Safarli, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan Ramiz Ahmadov, Chairman of the People’s Front of Azerbaijan party Ali Karimli, Chairman of the Social Welfare party Hanguseyn Kazimli.
They pointed out that “although Azerbaijan wants peaceful resolution of the conflict, the unsolved problems of the people ousted from native lands, and continuing occupation of the territories is exasperating them. At the same time, they expressed confidence that the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will intensify its efforts for the conflict to be settled as soon as possible.
Mr. Terry Davis noted he would take into consideration all details including the resolutions of UN SC, Council of Europe and other international structures, as well as illegal decision of the Armenian parliament on annexation of Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. He described cessation of bloodshed and return of the refugees to their native lands as most important objective.
